Welding Extraction

Read more about our latest welding installation.

Why Purex

Our customer is a leading player in the metal fabrication industry, specialising in welding and assembly of large metal structures. With a work area containing multiple welding stations operating simultaneously, the company faced significant challenges related to welding fumes and workplace safety.

Challenges

Welding processes produce hazardous fumes containing metal particles, gases, and other toxic substances. Prolonged exposure to these fumes can cause serious health issues for workers, including respiratory problems, metal fume fever, and long-term diseases. Additionally, regulatory bodies have strict guidelines on air quality standards in industrial workplaces. Our customer needed an effective solution to:

  • Ensure the health and safety of their employees.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain high productivity and quality standards.

Solution

Our customer contacted Purex to design and implement a comprehensive fume extraction system tailored to their specific needs. The solution included the installation of several extraction arms at key welding stations throughout the facility.

Key Features of the Solution

  • High-Efficiency Extraction Arms: Purex provided a series of extraction arms designed specifically for welding fume extraction. These arms are flexible, allowing for easy positioning and adjustment to capture fumes directly at the source.
  • Centralized Extraction Units: The extraction arms were connected to a centralised system, ensuring that the captured fumes were captured and vented to atmosphere via a high velocity vertical stack, providing maximum dispersal into the atmosphere.
  • Compliance and Safety: The system was designed to meet HSG 258 standards and regulations, providing our customer with peace of mind and a safe working environment for their employees.

The implementation process was conducted in several phases to minimize disruption to daily operations:

  • Assessment and Planning: Purex conducted a thorough assessment of the facility, identifying the specific needs of each welding station and creating a detailed installation plan.
  • Installation: The extraction arms and centralized filtration units were installed during off-peak hours to avoid interference with production schedules. The installation process was completed efficiently and within the projected timeline
  • Training and Support: Purex provided comprehensive training for the employees on how to operate and maintain the new system. Ongoing support was also offered to ensure the system's optimal performance.

The implementation of Purex’s welding fume extraction system resulted in significant improvements for the customers manufacturing.

  • Enhanced Worker Safety: The extraction system effectively captures the harmful fumes, ensuring a safer and healthier work environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: The company met all required occupational health and safety regulations, avoiding potential fines and enhancing their reputation as a responsible employer.
  • Increased Productivity: With a safer environment, workers will experience fewer health issues, leading to reduced absenteeism and increased productivity.
  • Improved Air Quality: The overall air quality in the facility improved, contributing to a more pleasant and sustainable working environment.
